About the book, in the Authors own words:

My father was killed when I was only two years old… so I really never knew him. I was raised by a great stepfather who has also passed, but will always be a big part of my life. But I often wondered what my “real Dad” was like. I asked my mother questions, and my older brother and sister provided stories, and their own personal memories, but I never learned who Leonard Baldy was until I started to do the research. With each person I interviewed, when asked what was he like, the recurring theme  was “the nicest, kindest man I ever met,” or “the greatest person I ever knew.”  Everyone loved this guy.  With the countless number of people I interviewed or spoke to about my father, not one could tell me anything negative. Then I researched the newspapers and discovered a person that both the media and the public were in awe of.  He was like a comic book super hero. They treated him as an icon . In Chicago, he was to law enforcement what Elvis was to Rock and Roll… what John Wayne was to Westerns… what Babe Ruth was to baseball. The one remarkable thing I learned when asking people about my father was that everyone remembered “where they were” when he was killed, mush like that of the Kennedy assassination. This book does not tell all the stories; it doesn’t even “scratch the surface” of explaining what made him so important. While I never knew him, I began to know and appreciate all he did that effected the lives of millions daily and why a city so big and strong could fall in love with one single police officer. As I learned and shared with you, this book may tell you why.

Tim Baldy grew up in Chicago and Phoenix. A desire to learn more about his past and his father caused him to do extensive research. What he learned was a story to be shared.  The result of that research is compiled in this book.
